Amazon FBA Carton & CBM Requirements: 2026 Checklist
Amazon FBA carton size, weight and label rules for 2026 — dimensional limits, pallet builds, LCL vs air, and how CBM affects your inbound plan.

Amazon FBA rejects more inbound shipments over carton geometry than over actual product problems. The good news: the rules are boring, mechanical and easy to plan for once you understand which numbers Amazon actually checks. This 2026 checklist walks through the current carton size, weight and CBM limits for Amazon FBA — plus how they change the choice between air, LCL and FCL.
The hard limits Amazon actually enforces
- Master carton weight: 22.6 kg (50 lb) is the standard cap. Cartons above 22.6 kg must carry a bold "Team Lift" label; above 45.4 kg they need a "Mechanical Lift" label and are rejected on many smaller-parcel FCs.
- Master carton size: longest side ≤ 63.5 cm (25 in) unless the product itself is longer. Oversize cartons pay higher inbound fees and are more likely to be split.
- Girth: length + 2 × (width + height) ≤ 419 cm (165 in) for standard sortation.
- Pallet: 40 × 48 in GMA hardwood, four-way entry, stretch-wrapped, max stack height 1.80 m (72 in) including pallet.
Why CBM matters more than unit count
Amazon inbound fees are increasingly volume-based, not just weight-based. The total CBM of your shipment drives three things: warehouse receiving cost, whether you qualify for AWD (Amazon Warehousing & Distribution) discounts, and whether LCL is cheaper than air.
A typical FBA carton for consumer goods is 50 × 40 × 30 cm = 0.06 CBM. 200 cartons is 12 CBM — comfortable LCL. 500 cartons is 30 CBM — you should be pricing 20ft FCL, not paying LCL rates plus consolidation surcharges.
Air vs LCL vs FCL decision chart
- < 0.5 CBM or urgent — express air (DHL / FedEx), door to Amazon warehouse in 5–7 days.
- 0.5 – 2 CBM — air freight consolidated with a forwarder. Cheaper than express, 10–14 days.
- 2 – 12 CBM — LCL sea freight. 30–45 days port to port, cheapest per-CBM option for slow-moving SKUs.
- > 12 CBM — start pricing 20ft FCL. Break-even often falls around 12–15 CBM depending on lane.
Label and packing gotchas
- FNSKU barcodes on every unit AND on every master carton — not one or the other.
- Shipment ID label on two adjacent sides of every carton.
- No mixed SKUs in a case-packed carton without explicit mixed-SKU check-in enabled.
- Poly-bagged units heavier than 340 g need a suffocation warning printed at ≥ 5 mm font.
How to plan your first FBA shipment in five steps
- Confirm carton dims with the factory and enter them in the CBM calculator.
- Check total CBM against the air / LCL / FCL bands above.
- Book with a forwarder who prepays customs and does DDP delivery to Amazon.
- Print FNSKU + shipment labels in advance; ship a small pilot first.
- Track receipt speed by warehouse — some FCs are chronically slow in Q4.
