I built CBM Checker because I watched the same expensive mistake play out every week of my freight career: a quote going out with the wrong cubic meter number because someone typed a formula incorrectly into a spreadsheet. One missing zero and a 40HC booking turned into a 20ft scramble at the port. I wanted a tool that did the math the same way, every time, on any device, for free — so the smallest importer has the same quoting accuracy as a global 3PL. That's it. Our story

CBM Checker (cbmchecker.com) was founded in 2024 by a small team of logistics operators and web engineers who had spent years watching the same problem play out across forwarding desks, warehouses and e-commerce back offices: a freight quote going out with the wrong cubic meter number because someone had typed a formula incorrectly into a shared spreadsheet. One missing zero, one row not copied down, one carton size left in inches instead of centimeters — and a quote was either too low to be profitable or so high it lost the deal.

Our founder, Daniel Okafor, spent eight years as an operations lead at a mid-sized freight forwarder before partnering with senior front-end engineer Mei Tanaka to build a tool that would do the math the same way, every time, in any unit, on any device. The first version of CBM Checker was a single-page calculator with one job: turn carton dimensions into cubic meters and container fill percentage without a download, signup or spreadsheet. That tool is still the core of the site today.

Our mission is simple: make shipping math instant, accurate and free — so the smallest importer in a small town has the same quoting accuracy as a global 3PL with a million-dollar TMS. Logistics is complicated enough. The arithmetic underneath it shouldn't be.

The team behind the site

CBM Checker is run by a distributed team of five across Lagos, Tokyo and Lisbon. We have backgrounds in ocean freight operations, customs brokerage, air cargo pricing and front-end performance engineering. Every calculator on the site is tested against real shipping documents — not just synthetic numbers — and reviewed by an operator who has actually loaded a 40HC.

Our commitment

We are committed to keeping the core CBM Calculator and every related tool permanently free for end users. The site is funded by non-intrusive advertising, which lets us cover hosting, development time and the occasional cup of coffee for the team.
